(Central News Agency reporter Kao Hua-chien, Taipei, June 16) The Ministry of the Interior convened the National Land Planning Council today to review and finalize the 'Taipei City National Land Functional Zoning Map.' With this approval, 21 out of Taiwan's 22 counties and cities have completed their national land functional zoning maps, leaving only Taoyuan City unfinished.

The Ministry's National Land Administration released a press statement indicating that the 50th National Land Planning Council meeting was held today to deliberate on the 'Draft Taipei City National Land Functional Zoning Map.' In accordance with the resolution of the 32nd National Land Planning Council meeting, the Taipei City Government supplemented information regarding the zoning outcomes for the Guandu and Zhoumei urban planning agricultural zones, along with explanations of urban development needs. The entire case has now been finalized.

The Administration stated that Taipei City, already designated as an area with established urban plans and national parks, has classified areas excluding national parks and major river systems as National Conservation Zones, while the remainder has been designated as Urban Development Zone Class 1.

The Administration noted that council members emphasized during the meeting that the Guandu and Zhoumei Plains—previously urban planning agricultural zones in Taipei City—are now designated as Urban Development Zones. Members reminded the city government that future reviews and amendments to urban plans should include comprehensive regional development plans, integrating multifunctional considerations such as urban climate regulation, ecology, flood retention, disaster prevention, and climate change adaptation measures to align with the goals of sustainable land use and rational resource management.

The Administration stated that the review process for national land functional zoning maps has now been completed for 21 counties and cities nationwide. The central and local governments will continue advancing statutory tasks under the National Land Planning Act to ensure land resource utilization aligns with sustainable development visions.
