Following visits to the United States by Taichung Mayor Lu Hsiu-yen and Kuomintang (KMT) Chairperson Cheng Li-chun, Legislative Yuan President Han Kuo-yu is set to lead a bipartisan delegation of legislators to the U.S. on May 21, with the itinerary expected to attract considerable attention.
Lu Hsiu-yen recently led a delegation to the U.S., while Cheng Li-chun’s visit is scheduled to conclude with her return to Taiwan on the 16th. Both trips have drawn widespread public and political scrutiny.
Legislative Yuan Secretary-General Chou Wan-lai has formally notified the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), KMT, and Taiwan People's Party (TPP) caucuses that Han Kuo-yu will lead a cross-party legislative delegation to the United States from May 21 to 27. In accordance with party representation ratios, the DPP and KMT caucuses will each send three members, while the TPP will send one.
According to sources, the DPP delegation will be represented by legislators Chen Kuan-ting, Lee Po-i, and Kuo Yu-ching. The KMT delegation members will be determined by a lottery draw on the 16th, while the TPP has yet to finalize its participant.
Han Kuo-yu had just concluded a European tour in May, visiting the United Kingdom and France with a bipartisan legislative group. His upcoming U.S. visit, coming on the heels of Lu and Cheng’s trips, raises questions about which U.S. officials he will meet, making the visit a focal point of diplomatic and political interest.
