In response to the rapid development of the semiconductor industry and the rising demand for high-level talent, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) has partnered with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) to advance talent development. This summer, they will launch the third-semester semiconductor specialized courses, with course registration opening on June 25, offering 760 slots for undergraduate students nationwide to further their studies.
NYCU released a press statement today, highlighting its long-term collaboration with TSMC in cultivating semiconductor talent. To date, the two parties have jointly established four semiconductor programs certified by TSMC. Industry experts and university faculty jointly participate in curriculum planning and review to ensure that teaching content aligns with industry trends and practical needs. This third-semester course is another significant outcome of their deepened cooperation.
Chen Yung-sheng, NYCU’s Provost, stated that the summer courses are organized by the Department of Semiconductor Engineering with support from TSMC. Emphasizing both professional skill enhancement and industry alignment, the courses will offer 760 enrollment slots to help students gain early exposure to semiconductor knowledge and technologies.
Ko Ming-tao, Chair of NYCU’s Department of Semiconductor Engineering, explained that the summer curriculum includes nine courses such as 'Circuit Theory,' 'Semiconductor Process Technology,' and 'Semiconductor Laboratory.' These are designed to allow students to systematically engage with core semiconductor knowledge and techniques during summer break without disrupting their regular semester schedules.
Ko noted that for students not majoring in electrical, electronic, or semiconductor-related fields, the summer courses help build foundational knowledge and cross-disciplinary expertise. For those in related fields, taking summer courses can accelerate their graduation credit planning, enabling them to complete their bachelor’s degrees within three years and transition earlier into graduate studies or the industry.
