(CNA reporter Wang Shu-fen, Taipei, June 15) According to the latest statistics from the Council of Agriculture, heavy rains on the 8th caused agricultural damage. As of 5:00 PM today, estimated losses to agricultural products and private facilities amount to NT$32.76 million, with the first crop of rice experiencing the most severe damage.

In a press release, the Council of Agriculture stated that heavy rains beginning on the 8th caused agricultural disasters. After consolidating data reported by city and county governments through the Agricultural and Food Agency and the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency, estimated losses to agricultural products and private facilities reached NT$32.76 million as of 5:00 PM today.

The Council of Agriculture reported that agricultural product losses are estimated at NT$32.63 million, affecting 1,092 hectares with a damage rate of 14%. This equates to 158 hectares with no harvestable yield. The most affected crop was the first crop of rice, with 285 hectares damaged, a damage rate of 23%, 66 hectares with no harvest, and losses amounting to NT$7.24 million. Other affected crops include taro, longan, bitter melon, and watermelon.

By region, Pingtung County suffered the highest losses at NT$16.84 million (51% of total), followed by Tainan City at NT$6.73 million (21%) and Yunlin County at NT$2.91 million (9%).

Additionally, forest product losses amounted to NT$30,000, primarily due to damaged trees, and private facility losses totaled NT$90,000, mainly from damaged horizontal trellis net houses.
