(Tokyo, Central News Agency, June 15 —综合 international wire reports) The United States and Iran have announced an agreement to resume operations at the Strait of Hormuz, a move expected to significantly alleviate supply chain pressures across Asia. As a result, Japan's benchmark Nikkei 225 index closed above 69,000 points, setting a new record high. South Korea's Kospi index also surged over 5%.

The Nikkei 225 closed up 3,297.46 points, or 4.99%, at 69,317.50.

The Tokyo Stock Price Index (TOPIX) rose 117.64 points, or 3.03%, to finish at 3,999.60.
