(CNA, Taipei, 15th) Hong Kong media today cited sources indicating that Yuen Siu-kin, former Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations, responsible for police duties), will assume the role of Director of Hong Kong's Food and Environmental Hygiene Department. One of the hiring conditions for the FEHD director is the ability to handle politically sensitive issues. Last year, the department imposed national security conditions on new applications and license renewals.

The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department is responsible for food safety, market management, and environmental hygiene in Hong Kong. In June last year, the FEHD introduced national security conditions for new and renewed licenses, including those for restaurants, food manufacturers, swimming pools, and entertainment venues. License holders or 'associated persons' found engaging in or involved with acts endangering national security, or 'offensive acts' detrimental to national security or Hong Kong's public interest, may have their licenses revoked.

Local media including Hong Kong 01 reported today that the FEHD director has traditionally been promoted internally from administrative officers, but the government unusually conducted an open recruitment, with hiring conditions including 'acute political sensitivity' and the ability to handle politically sensitive matters.

The report states that Yuen Siu-kin will assume the role of FEHD director starting the 16th.

Previously, the government also openly recruited for the Director of Information, appointing current Chief Executive's Office News Coordinator, Tse Chin-chung. Tse also has a police background, with over 20 years of law enforcement experience, and previously served as Commander of Kwai Tsing District. (Edited by: Chen Kai-yu / Lu Chia-jung) 1150615
