Central News Agency Report
(CNA reporter Lu Gang-jun, Hsinchu City, June 15) The Xiangshan Indoor Sports Hall in Hsinchu City recently opened, but Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Hsinchu City Councilor Lin Ying-che reported that residents have complained about water leakage inside the hall during rainy days. The city government responded that the sports hall is a semi-outdoor open-design facility, and the issue is primarily due to recent strong winds blowing rain diagonally into the hall—not roof leakage.
Councilor Lin told CNA reporters today that after long anticipation, the Xiangshan Comprehensive Sports Complex's indoor hall finally opened, but residents sent him photos showing water leakage inside the hall, making it difficult to exercise safely during rainy days. He urged relevant authorities to promptly improve the situation so the facility can fulfill its intended function.
The Hsinchu City Government's Department of Education stated in a written response that after receiving the report, personnel were dispatched for on-site inspection. The main cause was determined to be strong winds recently, which blew rain diagonally into the hall, indirectly causing water ingress—not due to roof leakage.
The Department explained that the Xiangshan Indoor Sports Hall is semi-outdoor with open-space characteristics. Under climatic conditions such as strong winds, sudden heavy rain, or unusual wind directions, brief instances of rain drifting into peripheral areas may still occur. The city will continue to strengthen inspection frequency, immediate environmental cleanup, and facility maintenance operations. (Editor: Chen Jen-hua) 1150615
