(Taipei, June 15, CNA by reporter Li Chien-chung) The WB Cup boxing tournament in China began today, with Taiwan's delegation fielding six athletes. Li Cheng-wei, competing first, lost 1-4; world No. 1 in the women's 54kg division, Huang Hsiao-wen, will compete tomorrow.

The WB Cup China leg, hosted by World Boxing (WB), runs from today through June 21 in Guiyang, China. Taiwan's team includes Peng Chia-feng (men's 55kg), Li Cheng-wei (men's 60kg), Kuo Yi-hsuan (women's 51kg), Huang Hsiao-wen (women's 54kg), Wu Shih-yi (women's 57kg), and Lin Yu-ting (women's 60kg).

Li Cheng-wei faced 23-year-old Michele Baldassi of Italy in the first round. All five judges awarded the opponent 10 points in the first round, but in the second round, Li launched a counterattack with aggressive combinations that landed successfully, narrowing the score to 0-2.

Unfortunately, Li failed to maintain pressure in the third round and ultimately lost 1-4 on points.

Huang Hsiao-wen, currently ranked world No. 1 in the WB women's 54kg division, had a first-round bye and will compete in the round of 16 tomorrow against the winner of the match between India and Uzbekistan.

Lin Yu-ting, who returned to the ring at the Asian Championships in April, is scheduled to compete on June 17. This will be her second international match since moving to the 60kg division.

Lin told CNA that as the Asian Championships was her first international bout at 60kg, "opponent data is still unfamiliar. I hope this match provides more intelligence to better simulate conditions for my upcoming Asian Games preparation." (Editor: Lee Heng-shan) 1150615
