The Keelung Branch of Taiwan International Ports Corporation announced today that it has established a 24-hour uninterrupted digital defense wall at Keelung Port, introducing AI video analytics technology and an unidentified vessel identification mechanism to comprehensively strengthen national gateway security resilience.
In a press release, the Keelung Port Branch explained that Keelung Port has unique geographical conditions, with fishing and commercial vessels sharing the same waterways, resulting in complex vessel traffic within the port area. To prevent unauthorized vessel intrusions, the 'Unidentified Vessel Identification System' has been installed at the breakwater entrances. By integrating the 'Automatic Identification System' (AIS) with AI video analytics technology, the system can instantly detect and alert on vessels that have not activated AIS or exhibit abnormal navigation patterns, assisting duty personnel in promptly identifying unusual activities.
The Keelung Port Branch stated that the new intelligent monitoring platform breaks the limitations of traditional 'single-camera monitoring,' enabling staff to view surveillance feeds from multiple zones on a single screen, reducing information gaps. It also establishes real-time notification and mutual support mechanisms, ensuring that relevant authorities such as the Coast Guard and Port Police are swiftly alerted upon detecting anomalies, enabling coordinated responses.
The Keelung Port Emergency Response Center emphasized that it will continue to refine AI algorithms and monitoring mechanisms to enhance the port's overall security resilience and digital management efficiency. This advancement supports the steady progress toward the global competitiveness goal of becoming a 'Smart Strong Port,' safeguarding the safety of every vessel entering and leaving the port.
