(Taipei, June 15, CNA reporter Lin Jing-yin) Taiwan's National Security Bureau (NSB) recently announced the establishment of a 'Contact Window for Chinese Civilians,' publicly encouraging individuals within China or overseas to actively provide intelligence. Critics have questioned whether the initiative yields more propaganda value than actual intelligence, citing risks of misinformation.

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) legislative caucus responded today, urging a calm and rational perspective. Caucus Managing Director Chao Jui-hsiung stated that any early warning regarding China's potential moves is beneficial and should be viewed with composure.

Caucus Secretary-General Fan Yun emphasized that gathering intelligence on the Chinese Communist Party through diversified channels is a positive development. While concerns about false intelligence are valid, she noted that the NSB is responsible for professional assessment. Dismissing multi-channel intelligence collection solely due to the risk of misinformation would be putting the cart before the horse.

Additionally, media reports indicate that U.S. military personnel have been stationed within Taiwan's Military Intelligence Bureau this year, signaling closer U.S.-Taiwan military intelligence cooperation. Chao stated that while the DPP caucus refrains from comment, such collaboration between democratic nations is normal and contributes to regional peace and stability. He added that intelligence sharing among democracies, especially within the same strategic bloc, is commonplace globally.

Meanwhile, KMT Chairperson Jessica Chen's recent U.S. visit saw discrepancies between planned and actual engagements. Some foreign media outlets described her as 'charming but naive.' Chao expressed sympathy, noting that such criticism of the leader of Taiwan's largest opposition party reflects a misalignment with mainstream U.S. strategic thinking.
