(Tainan, June 15 – Reporter Yang Sui-jui) A large truck transporting pigs was traveling along Provincial Highway No. 1 in Liujia District, Tainan City, this morning when it reportedly failed to notice that vehicles ahead were slowing down to stop at a red light. Due to rainy conditions and slippery roads, the truck collided with a pickup truck and a motorcycle ahead, resulting in the motorcyclist being pronounced dead at the scene.

At around 7 a.m., local police and emergency services received reports of a traffic accident at the intersection of Provincial Highway No. 1 and Township Road No. 174 in Liujia District. Upon arrival, they found a small pickup truck stopped in the middle of the intersection, a large truck facing the right roadside on the shoulder, and a motorcycle lying on the ground. The male motorcyclist appeared to have been run over by the large truck’s tire, and initial assessment confirmed death at the scene, with no hospital transport required.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the accident occurred during rainfall. The pig-carrying truck first struck the pickup truck ahead, which was waiting at a red light in the same lane, then veered right and hit a heavy motorcycle, finally coming to a stop on the shoulder. The motorcyclist is suspected to have been crushed by the right-side tires of the large truck.

Chien Yueh-hung, squad leader of the Madou Precinct Traffic Unit under the Tainan City Police Department, told reporters that the 30-year-old driver surnamed Chan was operating a commercial truck southbound on Highway No. 1 when, for unknown reasons, it rear-ended a 56-year-old man surnamed Shang driving an engineering pickup truck and a 48-year-old man surnamed Chen riding a heavy motorcycle at the 174 intersection. Mr. Chen died at the scene. Authorities are currently investigating the exact cause and liability.

Chien urged drivers to reduce speed, turn on headlights, and increase safe following distances during rainy weather to ensure road safety. (Edited by Chen Ching-fang) 1150615
