Suspected Water Pipe Burst in Tainan's Rende Causes Road Collapse, Traffic Pole Tilts and Mud Floods Homes

According to reports from Central News Agency, a section of Zhongzheng Road in Rende District, Tainan City, experienced suspected water pipe rupture in the early hours today, resulting in soil erosion beneath the pavement and subsequent road subsidence. This caused utility poles and traffic signal poles to tilt significantly, with mud and water flowing into adjacent residential homes, damaging furniture and appliances.

A resident surnamed Liu stated that upon waking around 4 a.m. to use the restroom, he noticed water entering the first floor of his home. Initially assuming it was due to rain, he opened the door only to find mud rushing into the house. Upon closer inspection, he discovered a large hole in the road outside, from which water was continuously gushing. He immediately woke his family to respond.

Due to the severe tilting of the traffic signal pole, the city government dispatched police to implement traffic control at the scene to prevent accidents. Taiwan Power Company and the local water authority were also notified to address potential electrical hazards and repair the pipeline.

Rende District Chief Hsu Po-sen explained that the incident was reported shortly after midnight, involving tilted poles on Section 2 of Zhongzheng Road. Preliminary investigations suggest that a ruptured water pipe caused soil erosion and road collapse. The district office has coordinated with the city's Transportation Bureau and Public Works Bureau, as well as utility providers, to manage the situation.

One nearby household was directly affected by the influx of mud and debris. The district office promptly dispatched alternative service personnel and volunteers for cleanup. Ongoing collaboration with relevant agencies will prioritize restoring traffic safety and securing residents' well-being.
