(Taipei, 15th) Taiwan's Representative to India, Chen Mu-min, attended the India Space Congress today, stating that in the face of the rapidly growing global space economy, Taiwan, leveraging its strengths in information and communications technology (ICT) and precision manufacturing, can become a trusted partner for India's space industry. He emphasized that both sides should deepen cooperation in space technology and supply chains.

Chen was invited to speak at the opening ceremony of the 2026 India Space Congress, held in New Delhi, India's capital.

According to a press release from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India, Chen noted that the global space economy reached approximately USD 620 billion in 2025 and is projected to grow to USD 1 trillion over the next decade. Taiwan is actively investing in related industries.

Chen stated that while India has accumulated rich experience in launch vehicles and satellite manufacturing, Taiwan holds industrial advantages in ICT, precision machinery, and electronic engineering. Taiwan has begun actively participating in the global space supply chain and is confident in becoming a reliable partner within India’s space industry chain.

Regarding Taiwan’s space development, Chen pointed out that Taiwan has been implementing its National Space Technology Long-term Development Program since 1991, successfully completing the Formosat-1, -2, -3, -5, and -7 satellite missions. The country is currently executing its third-phase space program.

He added that Taiwan successfully launched its self-developed optical remote sensing satellite, Formosat-8, last year. Upcoming plans include low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites and indigenous orbital launch vehicles, aiming to continuously enhance autonomous space capabilities and cultivate local talent.

Chen emphasized that space development is not only about technological breakthroughs but also closely tied to national resilience and security. Taiwan hopes to promote regional security through technological exchange and collaboration.

The 2026 India Space Congress is being held from the 15th to the 17th in New Delhi, organized by the Satellite Industry Association of India (SIA-India), with co-organization by Indian government departments such as the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and the Ministry of Defence, along with relevant companies. Over 1,000 participants from more than 30 countries are attending to discuss the future of the global space industry.

The Science and Technology Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India promoted the 2026 Taiwan Space International Conference (TASTI), scheduled to be held in Taiwan in November, inviting Indian industry representatives to explore collaboration opportunities.
