TAIPEI, June 14 (Central News Agency) — Yi-Chien Tang, a curator based in Portugal, has launched the PALOMA contemporary art curation project, with its inaugural exhibition titled 'A Booth Not in an Art Fair' opening today in Taiwan. The exhibition showcases works by contemporary artists from Spain and Portugal.

Tang, who holds a Master's degree in Contemporary Art Theory from Goldsmiths, University of London, stated in a press release that the PALOMA project aims to develop cross-border collaborative movements through partnerships with international cultural institutions. The initiative seeks to foster dialogue in Taiwan and serve as a platform for artistic exchange between Taiwanese and Iberian Peninsula artists, with plans to continuously introduce outstanding contemporary artists in the future.

The debut event of the PALOMA project is co-organized with Lisbon-based gallery dialogue gallery. The exhibition 'A Booth Not in an Art Fair' presents a two-person show featuring Portuguese artist Priscila Fernandes (also spelled Fernandes) and Spanish artist Marta Barrenechea (also spelled Barrenechea), prompting viewers to reflect on the mindset and journey of becoming an art collector.

Fernandes presents her 'Newspaper Stand' series, using black-and-white paper works and encaustic paintings to 'report' on political situations and emotional responses to war, disasters, and current events. Barrenechea, who previously worked as a lighthouse keeper and airport weather observer, intervenes in existing images through sewing and embroidery—adding subtle details to news photographs, such as incongruous furniture beside a president or missing fragments in brick walls.

The exhibition 'A Booth Not in an Art Fair' runs from today through June 21 at ss space space, an art venue in Bali District, New Taipei City.
