Taiwan's Gomico Technology is planning to invest approximately 914 million Czech koruna (about NT$1.385 billion) in the Ústí nad Labem region of the Czech Republic to construct a factory dedicated to the cleaning and surface treatment of components used in semiconductor manufacturing, potentially strengthening the Czech semiconductor supply chain cluster.
With TSMC establishing a factory in Dresden, Germany, it has further encouraged Taiwanese supply chain companies to expand into neighboring Czechia. The Ústí nad Labem region, located near the German-Czech border, has emerged as one of the preferred locations for Taiwanese suppliers.
According to the Czech News Agency (ČTK), Gomico Technology intends to build its facility within the Triangle Industrial Park in Žatec, Ústí nad Labem. The company plans to lease and eventually purchase a 2.68-hectare plot of land. The regional assembly has already approved the land reservation agreement.
Magdalena Fraňková, spokesperson for the Ústí nad Labem regional government, stated: 'The company plans to build a factory specializing in the cleaning and surface treatment of components used in semiconductor manufacturing. Construction is expected to take place between 2026 and 2027, with an estimated investment of 914 million Czech koruna, potentially creating up to 100 new jobs.'
Gomico Technology Co., Ltd. of Taiwan is part of the South Korean MiCo Group. The group operates over 10 factories globally, located in South Korea, the United States, China, Taiwan, and Singapore. This investment in the Czech Republic will mark its first European foothold.
In addition to Gomico Technology, Taiwanese logistics company i-TRANS Global announced in May this year that it is preparing to establish a semiconductor chemical logistics center in the Ústí nad Labem region.
i-TRANS Global plans to invest 20 million euros (approximately NT$730 million) to provide specialized warehousing and logistics services for chemicals and gases, primarily serving European TSMC (Euro-TSMC) and other semiconductor supply chain companies.
The Czech Investment Promotion Agency (CzechInvest) stated that Taiwanese investments could attract more suppliers providing materials and services to semiconductor manufacturers to the region. It is currently in talks with multiple Taiwanese companies regarding investments in semiconductor-related projects in the Czech Republic.
