(CNA reporter Wang Chao-yu, Keelung, June 14) Keelung Mayor Hsieh Kuo-liang was invited today to attend the 'World Cities Summit' in Singapore and inspect the multi-functional integrated community of Tampines Hub. He engaged in exchanges on age-inclusive community integration and urban space revitalization, aiming to gradually transform Keelung into a resilient port city.

The Keelung City Government released a press statement today stating that Mayor Hsieh was invited to attend the 'World Cities Summit' and was hosted by Baey Yam Keng, Mayor of Singapore's North East District. He led the Keelung municipal team on a visit to Tampines Hub, where they exchanged experiences on 'age-inclusive community integration' and 'urban space revitalization'.

Hsieh stated that Tampines Hub integrates residents' daily needs—including public services, sports facilities, entertainment and leisure, food courts, bookstores, and clinics—into a single complex. Consolidating various functions into one building not only enhances convenience and intergenerational inclusivity but also allows citizens to enjoy a stable community environment and quality of life regardless of weather conditions.

During the lunch banquet, Hsieh exchanged views with mayors from port cities in the United States, Australia, and other countries on urban governance, harbor development, and sustainable construction. Hsieh noted that Keelung, as a major port city in Taiwan, faces challenges and opportunities similar to many international port cities. Face-to-face exchanges allow Keelung to learn from successful models while also showcasing its development achievements to a broader international audience.

Hsieh emphasized that the municipal team will incorporate the valuable experiences gained from this visit and the forward-thinking ideas from the World Cities Summit into city planning. This includes integrating age-inclusive design, architectural innovation, green sustainability, and closer integration of arts and culture with public spaces, aiming to gradually transform Keelung into a resilient port city that combines international vision with local warmth.
