2026 FIFA World Cup Key News
Central News Agency (Kansas City, 14th –综合外电) US prosecutors announced today that two men were charged yesterday for allegedly stealing England national team equipment and gear worth approximately $18,000 (about NT$570,000) during the World Cup.
According to Agence France-Presse, a statement from the office of Jackson County, Missouri Prosecutor Melesa Johnson confirmed that Mustafa Salik and Erfan Kamal have each been charged with one count of 'receiving stolen property.' Under Missouri state law, the offense carries a maximum penalty of seven years in prison.
Prosecutors stated that the England team's equipment went missing while being transported from the team's pre-tournament base in Florida to Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City.
Johnson said, 'Jackson County will not tolerate any criminal activity targeting World Cup visitors, including international teams traveling from afar to compete.'
Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas praised law enforcement and the prosecutor's office for their 'interstate collaboration,' which enabled the recovery of property stolen during transit and its return to the victims.
England's backup goalkeeper Dean Henderson earlier confirmed that he has retrieved his stolen boots, and that most of the team's lost items have been recovered.
Group L's England will face Croatia in their opening match on the 17th, followed by games against Ghana and Panama. (Translation: Shih Shih) 1150614
