WARSAW, April 14 (CNA) - Romanian centrist President Nicusor Dan has nominated Liberal Party member Adrian Vestea as the new prime minister candidate. The previous candidate, Eugen Tomac, who attempted to form a technocratic government, has withdrawn his nomination after failing to gain support from political parties in parliament.

According to the Associated Press, in May, former liberal Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan was ousted by a no-confidence vote, prompting Dan to nominate a new prime minister.

Reuters reported that Dan said today, "Eugen Tomac withdrew his nomination this morning, so I have decided to nominate Adrian Vestea as prime minister."

Political parties in parliament have previously indicated they prefer a minority government without a fixed parliamentary majority over a technocratic administration.

The 52-year-old Vestea is currently the president of the Brasov County Council in central Romania. He has 10 days to form a cabinet and secure a vote of confidence in parliament.

President Dan is attempting to resolve the ongoing political crisis, which has not only stalled policy implementation but could also affect Romania's access to European Union funds, causing the Romanian leu to fall to a record low.

Romania's next parliamentary elections are scheduled for 2028, and the country has never held early elections. Analysts say the likelihood of early elections remains slim, as far-right opposition parties are currently leading pro-EU parties by a wide margin in opinion polls.
