(CNA reporter Hsieh Ching-wen, New Taipei, June 14) In today's Yu Shan Cup youth baseball game between Taoyuan City and Kaohsiung City, Tseng Yi-Che of Taoyuan hit a go-ahead 3-run homer in the 3rd inning. With two extra-base hits and 4 RBIs, he led his team to a 12-5 victory.
The first half saw both teams exchanging blows. Kaohsiung took an early 3-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning, capitalizing on pitching and defensive errors from Taoyuan.
Taoyuan responded in the bottom of the 1st: back-to-back hits by Hsing Shih-hsien and Peng Cheng-an narrowed the gap. A walk and a pitcher's balk brought in their second run, and with one out, Tseng's double tied the game.
Kaohsiung added 2 more runs in the 2nd, but Taoyuan surged ahead in the 3rd with hits, an error, and Tseng's 3-run homer.
In the 5th, Taoyuan exploded for 6 runs in one inning—fueled by 5 walks, 2 hits, and defensive miscues—sending 10 batters to the plate and securing the win.
Tseng, batting fifth as designated hitter, went 2-for-3 with two extra-base hits and a hit-by-pitch, driving in 4 runs with standout offensive performance.
Reliever Lee Cheng-chun earned the win with 3.1 scoreless innings. Lin Chun-hsi, who has already signed with the MLB's Pittsburgh Pirates, pitched 1.1 scoreless innings in relief, credited with no decision. (Editor: Chang Ya-ching) 1150614
