According to reports from Central News Agency, on the early morning of the 13th, the Pingzhen Precinct of the Taoyuan City Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle and apprehended a man surnamed Qiu for suspected drug-impaired driving. During the inspection, officers observed that Qiu appeared disoriented and gave evasive answers. He later admitted to driving after using drugs, and a rapid oral fluid drug test confirmed a positive result for cathinone.
Further searches of the vehicle uncovered 1,200 packets of drug-infused coffee powder and 860 units of colorful electronic cigarettes known as 'rainbow cigarettes,' totaling over 2,000 illegal drug items. Given the large quantity, police suspect Qiu intended to distribute the drugs. He has been transferred to the Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office on charges of endangering public safety by drug-impaired driving and possession of second- and third-tier narcotics with intent to sell.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to trace the drug supply chain and identify any accomplices. According to Pingzhen Precinct statistics, as of this case, 55 drug-impaired driving incidents and 43 drug-related cases have been detected this year. Police reaffirmed their zero-tolerance stance toward drug crimes and pledged to strengthen enforcement efforts to block drug distribution at the source and safeguard public safety.
