At approximately 11:20 PM Japan time yesterday, a car suddenly crashed into the local office of Taro Honda, a Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) member of Japan's House of Representatives, located in Hikido-cho, Maizuru City, Kyoto Prefecture. Police officers nearby, who were handling another incident, witnessed the event and attempted to approach the driver for questioning. However, the vehicle immediately reversed back onto the road and sped away northward.

According to reports from NHK and the Yomiuri Shimbun, the office faces a national highway with single-lane traffic in each direction. The suspect vehicle crossed over the curb separating the roadway from the sidewalk before crashing directly into the office building. At the time of the incident, no one was inside the office, and there were no injuries.

A driver who was following behind the suspect vehicle gave an interview to NHK, describing the shocking moment: 'It was a silver minivan that crashed into the building.' The witness stated, 'The car had been driving straight, but about 20 to 30 meters before reaching the office, the vehicle suddenly began swerving violently and then crashed straight in. The impact made a loud 'bang' and 'clang' sound—I initially thought it was an earthquake.'

The witness added, 'The front half of the vehicle was almost entirely embedded in the building, but it then reversed back onto the road and fled north. The front of the minivan was severely damaged. Only the driver appeared to be inside, and the rear compartment seemed fully loaded with cargo. The incident happened so suddenly—it really shocked me.' Police are currently investigating the case on suspicion of hit-and-run driving.
