Central News Agency Report

(CNA reporter Wu Jui-chi, Taoyuan, June 14) A three-vehicle rear-end collision occurred tonight on the southbound stretch of National Highway No. 1 in Taoyuan's Yangmei area, resulting in seven people injured and transported to hospitals. Fortunately, all injuries were limited to abrasions. Police conducted breathalyzer tests on the drivers, all of which returned zero. The accident was cleared by 8:40 PM, but caused severe traffic congestion in the rearward lanes.

The Second Highway Police Brigade of the National Highway Police Bureau reported receiving notification of a traffic accident at 7:52 PM at the 70.6-kilometer mark on the southbound National Highway No. 1 in Yangmei, Taoyuan. A man surnamed Yang, driving a passenger car, allegedly lost control while passing through the area, first colliding with a passenger car driven by a man surnamed Huang, then rear-ending another passenger car also driven by a man surnamed Huang, resulting in a three-vehicle collision.

The Second Highway Police Brigade stated that the accident injured seven people—three men and four women. All sustained only minor abrasions and were assisted by emergency personnel and sent to hospitals for treatment. The exact cause of the accident and liability are still under further investigation. As the incident occupied multiple lanes, it caused severe traffic congestion behind the scene.

Earlier today, at around 51.5 kilometers northbound on the Wuyang Elevated Road section of National Highway No. 1 in Taoyuan, another accident involving six vehicles occurred. Preliminary police investigation suggests that a man surnamed Yeh was distracted while driving and crashed into a guardrail, triggering a chain-reaction rear-end collision. One female passenger suffered facial abrasions and bleeding teeth and was sent to the hospital for treatment.

The National Highway Police urge drivers to turn on headlights, maintain a safe distance, avoid speeding and abrupt lane changes during rainy weather. They also recommend regular checks of tire treads and overall vehicle conditions. In case of hydroplaning, drivers should ease off the accelerator, firmly grip the steering wheel, and avoid slamming the brakes. Additionally, all passengers, front and rear, should properly fasten seat belts to ensure safety. (Edited by Hsiao Po-wen) 1150614
