(Taipei, June 14 – Reporter Su Chih-Yu) The Wei Chuan Dragons of the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) have recorded their 1,000th home run in team history. Outfielder Wang Shun-He hit a solo home run to right field in the bottom of the 5th inning today, scoring the team’s first run and achieving a historic milestone.
The Dragons faced the Uni-President 7-Eleven Lions at Tianmu Baseball Stadium today. After conceding three runs in the top of the 4th inning, Wang stepped up to bat with two outs in the bottom of the 5th. He drove a pitch from Lions starting pitcher Brock Dykxhoorn over the right-field fence for his first home run of the season, marking the franchise’s 1,000th homer.
As one of the four founding teams of the CPBL, the Wei Chuan Dragons originally disbanded after the 1999 season, having accumulated 676 home runs. They returned to the top division in 2021 and continued building their record. After Chang Cheng-Yu hit the 999th homer on June 6, the team entered the final countdown—finally reaching this landmark achievement today. (Editor: Chang Ya-Ching) 1150614
