(CNA reporter Wang Chao-yu, Yilan, 14th) Kuomintang Yilan County Magistrate candidate Wu Tsung-hsien today launched a medical transportation policy called the 'Ambulance Green Light' initiative, aiming to shorten hospital transfer times by building a smart traffic system that links emergency vehicles with traffic signals along their route for priority passage, thereby saving lives.
In a press release, Wu stated that during his campaign trail, he heard many residents express helplessness—many have elderly parents and young children at home, fearing sudden emergencies among seniors and worrying that traffic congestion could trap ambulances in traffic, missing the golden window for rescue.
Wu said he referenced Taoyuan City's successful experience in proposing this plan. The initiative involves installing an electronic geofencing system around hospitals with emergency capabilities. When an ambulance enters a designated zone, the system automatically links with traffic signals to adjust green light timing at intersections ahead, helping clear traffic flow and enabling ambulances to pass quickly and safely.
Wu emphasized that the most critical mission of an ambulance is to deliver patients to hospitals as swiftly as possible, and smooth traffic is often the key. He hopes to harness technology to protect residents, ensuring ambulances encounter green lights all the way—giving life greater hope and families greater peace of mind.
