(Taipei, April 14, CNA by reporter Chen Jung-shen) The Taiwan women's volleyball team fell 0-3 to South Korea in today's Asian Cup final, narrowly missing the gold medal. However, they still achieved a historic milestone for the team, with three players—Tsai Yu-chun, Chen Chiao-en, and Lin Chi-jung—named to the tournament's Best Seven lineup.

The 2026 Women's Volleyball Asian Cup was held in the Philippines. Taiwan, whose previous best result was a bronze medal, advanced to the semifinals as the second-place team in their group. Yesterday, they defeated Kazakhstan 3-0 to reach the final—an unprecedented achievement in team history. Today, they faced South Korea for the championship title. The two teams had previously met in the group stage, where Taiwan narrowly lost 2-3, making this match a chance for a 'sweet revenge.'

In the first set, Taiwan's strong blocking defense repeatedly neutralized South Korea's attacks. However, they suffered a scoring drought late in the set and lost 19-25. The second set followed a similar pattern, as Taiwan failed to regain momentum and again lost 19-25. In the third set, Taiwan showed resilience, overcoming a four-point deficit at one point. However, they were unable to effectively contain their opponents' offense and ultimately lost 22-25.

Although Taiwan missed out on the Asian Cup title, finishing as runners-up marks a new milestone in team history. Three players were honored in the Best Seven: Tsai Yu-chun for her consistent scoring as Best Outside Spiker, Chen Chiao-en for her blocking prowess as Best Middle Blocker, and Lin Chi-jung for her diving saves as Best Libero.

Head coach Teng Yen-min said in an interview that this national team brings together top players from various clubs, and the key has been building a cohesive, united squad. 'Everyone must learn to support each other, not just shine individually,' he said. 'We gain experience from every tournament and will continue to grow together as we prepare for the upcoming Asian Games in Nagoya this September.' (Edited by Ho Hung-ju) 1150615
