Central News Agency Report
(Central News Agency reporter Hsueh-Ching Hao, Taichung, June 14) A large exterior advertising sign at a drugstore near the Jingmei business district in Taichung's West District fell tonight, striking a vehicle parked roadside. Firefighters on the scene reported that a female passenger inside the car was startled but unharmed, and was safely assisted out. Further investigation will be conducted by the police.
The Taichung City Fire Bureau stated that at 8:32 p.m., they received a report of a vehicle being hit by a falling sign on Gongyi Road in the West District, and immediately dispatched rescue units. On-site personnel confirmed that a large wooden advertising sign had fallen and struck a passenger car. One female passenger inside was frightened but sustained no injuries.
The fire department indicated that the large wooden sign likely deteriorated and collapsed due to several days of continuous rainfall. In addition to assisting the female passenger, responders confirmed no other injuries in the vicinity. The woman declined medical treatment after being freed and the case was subsequently handed over to the police.
Initial police investigation revealed that the fallen signboard included signage from both the drugstore and an adjacent convenience store. The incident affected four motorcycles and one passenger car, with no injuries reported.
Police have temporarily closed the outer lane of Gongyi Road near the incident site. Cleanup operations are ongoing, and the public is urged to exercise caution, change routes, and proceed slowly when passing through. Responsibility and compensation matters will be clarified by the relevant authorities. (Editor: Po-Wen Hsiao) 1150614
