(CNA reporter Hsiao Po-yang, Nantou County, June 14) — A fire erupted today at a private residence on Section 3, Zhangnan South Road in Nantou City. By the time firefighters arrived, the building was already fully ablaze, resulting in two fatalities and one person rescued from the scene.

The Nantou County Government Fire Bureau received an emergency call early this morning regarding a residential fire on Section 3, Zhangnan South Road in Nantou City, and dispatched 14 vehicles and 40 personnel from the First Battalion and local units including Nantou, Zhongxing, Mingjian, Bixing, Caotun, and Fengming stations to conduct rescue operations.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the scene already fully engulfed in flames. A 22-year-old man with the surname Hsiao was trapped on the second-floor balcony and was rescued and transported to the Ministry of Health and Welfare Nantou Hospital for treatment.

According to the Fire Bureau, after deploying multiple water lines and fully extinguishing the fire, personnel entered the building to conduct a search. On the third floor bathroom, a male victim was found in OHCA (Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest) condition and was rushed to the hospital but later pronounced dead. Firefighters continued searching the fourth floor and discovered a female victim with severe burns, already deceased.

The building is a row house, and a car parked on the ground floor was completely destroyed by fire. The flames likely spread upward and affected adjacent homes. The Nantou Police Criminal Investigation Division and the Fire Bureau’s Fire Investigation Unit have sent personnel to the scene to collect evidence and determine the exact point of origin, cause of the fire, and whether any accelerants were used.

Additionally, some neighbors reported seeing flames erupt from inside the house, and police are reviewing surrounding surveillance footage to reconstruct the sequence of events. (Editor: Wu Su-jou) 1150614
