(Central News Agency reporter Hao Hsueh-ching, Taichung, April 14) Taichung Mayor Lu Hsiu-yen led a delegation to Europe, visiting the Austrian Parliament Building on April 13 (Austrian time) and attending a banquet for overseas compatriots that evening. She stated that everyone bears the important responsibility of conveying Taiwan's authentic voice to the world, enabling more people to see Taiwan.
The Taichung City Government released a press statement today outlining the final day of Mayor Lu's European visit: after touring the Austrian Parliament Building, she attended the overseas compatriots' banquet in the evening and will return to Taiwan via Taoyuan International Airport the following afternoon.
The city government noted that in recent years, the Austrian Parliament has transformed its historically significant parliamentary building into a more open, transparent, and citizen-friendly public space through spatial renovations and institutional innovations that expand civic participation. This demonstrates the spirit of democratic governance and civic engagement, leaving a deep impression on the delegation regarding Europe's democratic governance practices.
Speaking at the banquet, Mayor Lu emphasized that Taiwan holds a key position in the global supply chain due to its strengths in semiconductor and high-tech industries, creating more opportunities for the world to understand Taiwan. Beyond industrial competitiveness, Taiwan also demonstrates to the international community its core values of democracy, freedom, and the rule of law, establishing itself as a reliable and important partner in the Asia-Pacific region.
Mayor Lu pointed out that overseas compatriots have long been developing and thriving around the world, excelling in their respective professional fields while serving as vital bridges connecting Taiwan with the global community. Whether by assisting young Taiwanese in studying, working, and living abroad or by advocating for Taiwan internationally, they have made significant contributions to enhancing Taiwan's visibility.
Mayor Lu also expressed special gratitude to overseas compatriots for their long-standing support of Taiwan. She said that every time Taiwan gains international recognition, it is backed by the quiet efforts of many overseas compatriots. During this European visit, she deeply felt the overseas community's love and support for Taiwan. She pledged that if there are any needs for assistance from the Taichung City Government in the future, her administration will provide full support and maintain close communication with the overseas community.
According to the Taichung City Government, Mayor Lu's European trip included Germany, the Czech Republic, and Austria. Through exchanges with democratic partners, dialogues on urban governance, and industrial cooperation, the visit further strengthened Taichung's friendly relations with European counterparts and laid a solid foundation for future international collaboration.
