(Taipei, Dubai, June 14 - CNA compilation of international news) An Iranian official told Reuters that the final draft of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the United States covers multiple issues, including Iran's nuclear program, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and U.S. exemption from sanctions on Iranian oil. Both sides will discuss the final agreement within 60 days of reaching an understanding.
According to the Iranian official, the draft MOU includes the following:
- Iran will immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz, allowing all commercial vessels to pass through. - The U.S. will lift its naval blockade on Iranian ports. This action will begin immediately upon signing of the memorandum and be completed within 30 days. - The U.S. agrees not to impose any new sanctions on Iran before a final agreement is reached. - Once a final agreement is reached, all U.S. and United Nations (UN) sanctions on Iran will be lifted according to a scheduled timeline. - The U.S. will temporarily exempt sanctions on Iranian oil, allowing Iran to sell oil and earn revenue. - The U.S. agrees to release $25 billion in frozen Iranian assets, through direct cash transfers, regional cooperation, and credit lines. - Washington will coordinate with regional allies to prepare a reconstruction and development plan for Iran, to be finalized in consultation with Iran within 60 days. - Iran agrees not to produce or acquire nuclear weapons. - Until a final agreement is reached, Iran's nuclear program will remain at its current status, with no further uranium enrichment activities or expansion of nuclear facilities. - The U.S. agrees, under a future comprehensive agreement, to allow Iran to dilute its stockpile of highly enriched uranium domestically. - Mechanisms for Iran's nuclear program, uranium enrichment activities, and disposition of highly enriched uranium stockpiles will be negotiated within 60 days of the MOU and finalized in the final agreement.
