According to Central News Agency, a fire erupted last night at a factory located on Ben Gong 5th Road in Gangshan District, Kaohsiung. The site contained large amounts of waste materials and drummed waste solvents, resulting in intense flames and thick smoke. The Kaohsiung Fire Department dispatched over 100 personnel and firefighting robots to the scene, successfully extinguishing the fire by early morning today. No injuries or people trapped were reported.
The Kaohsiung City Fire Department stated that the first emergency call was received at 7:04 p.m. Upon arrival, the initial rescue team found a large fire burning in an open outdoor area of the waste processing and recycling facility. The operator confirmed that the burning materials included various chemical solvents, posing a high level of danger.
To prevent the fire from spreading, firefighters adopted a 'defensive tactic,' deploying water lines to contain the blaze. The Southern Region Environmental Accident Technical Team and the Kaohsiung City Environmental Protection Bureau were notified to conduct environmental monitoring.
The fire was fully extinguished at 4:32 a.m. today. The burned area covered approximately 1,500 square meters. No casualties or entrapments occurred. The cause of the fire will be investigated by fire investigators.
In total, the operation involved 48 fire trucks, 131 firefighters, and 75 volunteer firefighters. Additionally, six firefighting robots, three drones, and 11 high-performance chemical fire engines were deployed.
The fire department urged factories and waste treatment facilities to enforce strict safety management and conduct regular self-inspections to prevent fires and air pollution. Facilities should maintain fire safety protocols, pay attention to high-risk electrical equipment, and ensure proper storage of hazardous chemicals to enhance fire prevention awareness.
