(CNA reporter Tang Ya-ling, São Paulo, December 12) – The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Brazil co-hosted the 'Understanding Taiwan – Innovation, Technology, and Sustainable Development Business Opportunity Seminar' with UNIEURO University in Brasília on December 11. The event was attended by Brazilian entrepreneurs, representatives from research institutions, and university faculty and students, who expressed strong interest in Taiwan’s achievements in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and high-tech industries, resulting in lively discussions.

According to a press release from the representative office, Taipei Representative Liao Chih-hsien stated in his opening remarks that Taiwan is a crucial hub for global technological innovation and advanced manufacturing, leading the world in sectors such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, information and communications technology (ICT), and advanced manufacturing. As the world enters an era of rapid AI development, Taiwan will continue to play a key role in driving digital transformation and technological innovation. He expressed hope for deepening cooperation with Brazil to jointly seize new technological opportunities.

Liao emphasized that Taiwan and Brazil have highly complementary industrial structures. Brazil possesses abundant natural resources, strengths in agriculture and industry, and a vast market, while Taiwan excels in technological R&D, innovation capabilities, and experience in integrating into global supply chains. Bilateral cooperation would not only promote industrial upgrading but also create new business opportunities for enterprises in both countries.

Sylvia Shih, Director of the Taiwan Trade Center in Brazil, presented on Taiwan’s industrial strengths, the International Trade Administration’s global exhibition resources, and service mechanisms such as business matchmaking, investment consultations, and market development support. She encouraged Brazilian companies to leverage Taiwan as a strategic platform to expand into the Asian market and establish partnerships with Taiwanese firms through the Trade Center.

Hsu Chih-hung, Deputy Director of the Economic Division at the Taipei Office, delivered a keynote presentation on Taiwan’s current economic development and bilateral trade and investment opportunities. He noted that although Taiwan will not have a team participating in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, it is still involved in the tournament in another way. Taiwan’s textile industry technology ranks among the world’s most advanced, and high-performance fabrics developed in Taiwan have been used in national team jerseys during past World Cup tournaments.

He said, 'Although our team isn’t playing in the World Cup, Taiwan’s technology appears in every match. We’ll also be cheering for the Brazilian team.' His remarks received enthusiastic applause and positive reactions from the audience.

Hsu also stated that Taiwan hopes to further expand collaboration with Brazilian businesses. Many Taiwanese companies are already deeply established in the Brazilian market, offering products in electronics, ICT, machinery, and industrial components, and have gained market recognition for their quality and competitiveness.

During the event, numerous business and academic attendees actively asked questions and engaged in discussions. Brazilian entrepreneur Fábio Caetano, who has visited Taiwan for inspection, shared that his trip led to tangible outcomes and successfully facilitated business collaborations.

The representative office noted that Brazilian media outlet Expressão Brasiliense covered the event under the headline 'Taiwan introduces business opportunities to the Federal District’s business community and strengthens ties with Brazilian partners.' The report highlighted Taiwan, as a major Asian economy and innovation hub, continuously deepening cooperation with Brazilian enterprises through industrial exchanges, business matchmaking, and international exhibitions, creating new opportunities for bilateral economic and trade relations.
