(CNA reporter Wu Hsin-yun, Taipei, June 13) The Central Weather Administration stated today that a frontal system will be located off northern waters on the 14th and 15th, combined with the influence of southwest winds, leading to unstable weather conditions across Taiwan. Central and southern regions may experience short-duration heavy rains, while northern areas and Yilan could see localized heavy rainfall in the afternoons.

Cheng Chieh-jen, a forecaster at the Central Weather Administration, told CNA reporters today that southwest winds will strengthen tonight, bringing scattered brief showers or thunderstorms to southern regions. By early tomorrow morning, the probability of rainfall will gradually increase across western Taiwan, including Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu.

Cheng pointed out that during the 14th and 15th, with the front lingering off northern waters and under the influence of southwest winds, weather across the island will remain unstable. Central and southern regions may see showers or thunderstorms, with possible localized heavy rains or short-duration downpours.

He added that northern and Yilan areas may experience localized heavy rains in the afternoons, while Hualien and Taitung may see scattered brief showers. There remains a chance of rain across all regions.

Regarding conditions from the 16th onward, Cheng stated that southwest winds will persist, but moisture content will gradually decrease over time. Western Taiwan will see localized brief showers or thunderstorms, while the eastern half will be mostly cloudy with possible afternoon localized thunderstorms. From the 17th to 18th, windward central and southern regions may see localized brief thunderstorms, while northern and eastern areas will be mostly cloudy to sunny with afternoon thunderstorms.

Starting the 19th, under the influence of the Pacific high pressure and with the front moving away, weather across Taiwan will become mostly cloudy to sunny. However, central-northern regions, Yilan, and other mountainous areas may still experience afternoon localized brief thunderstorms. Additionally, due to prevailing southwest winds, southern regions may see scattered brief morning showers.

Regarding temperatures, Cheng said that due to rainfall, temperatures across Taiwan will slightly drop on the 14th and 15th, ranging from about 25 to 29 degrees Celsius. However, because of the subsidence effect of southwest winds, a foehn wind may occur in Taitung. (Edited by Li Heng-shan) 1150613
