On the day the 2026 FIFA World Cup began in the United States, retired English football superstar David Beckham was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, becoming the first British player to win league titles in four countries.
According to Reuters, the star ceremony did not feature the traditional red carpet but instead used a green turf-themed carpet to reflect the World Cup atmosphere.
The event was hosted by radio personality Ellen K, who introduced several speakers, including actor Tom Cruise and Beckham's wife, Victoria Beckham.
Tom Cruise praised Beckham's life journey as a 'Hollywood story,' combining hard work, determination, and global influence on sports and pop culture.
Victoria Beckham said the honor was especially meaningful on the eve of the World Cup kicking off in Los Angeles. She stated that soccer in the United States is entering 'one of the most exciting chapters in its history.'
Beckham took the stage and described the moment as 'surreal.' He recalled growing up in East London with dreams of becoming a footballer, never imagining he would one day be honored on Hollywood Boulevard.
Now a co-owner of Major League Soccer (MLS) club Inter Miami CF, Beckham expressed pride in the growing popularity of soccer in the United States. Inter Miami, which signed Argentine star Lionel Messi, won the MLS Cup last year.
Over his 20-year professional career, Beckham played for several world-class clubs, including Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC Milan, LA Galaxy, and Paris Saint-Germain.
After retiring from playing in 2013, Beckham has maintained international influence through partnerships with global brands such as Adidas, Bank of America, Hugo Boss, and Stella Artois.
