(CNA reporter Shen Ru-Feng, Yilan County, June 13) An elderly man driving a passenger car veered off the road for unknown reasons while traveling through Yilan City today, crashing into a guardrail before plunging into a field. The incident resulted in one female passenger dying from severe injuries, while the elderly driver and three other passengers sustained varying degrees of injury and were rushed to hospital.

The Yilan County Fire Bureau received a report at around 5 p.m. stating that a passenger car had crashed into a guardrail at the intersection of Meiyi Road and Huanshi East Road Section 3 in Yilan City, with five people trapped inside. The bureau immediately dispatched rescue vehicles equipped with extrication tools and ambulances from multiple stations to the scene.

Upon arrival, police and firefighters found the vehicle severely damaged. They used hydraulic tools to pry open the car body and rescue the trapped occupants. Multiple ambulances transported the injured to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment.

Initial police investigations indicate the passenger car suddenly veered off the road, struck the guardrail, and then entered a field.
