US Bans Foreigners from Using Anthropic's Most Advanced AI over National Security Concerns

Artificial intelligence (AI) developer Anthropic announced today that the US government has ordered it to ban foreigners from using its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI models, citing national security concerns.

According to Reuters, Anthropic received export control directives from the government today, though the specific details of the national security concerns were not disclosed.

However, based on Anthropic's statement, the company understands that the government believes a method has been discovered to bypass or 'jailbreak' the Fable 5 model.

Anthropic stated, 'The ultimate result of this order is that we must immediately deactivate Fable 5 and Mythos 5 to ensure all customers meet compliance requirements. Access to other Anthropic models remains unaffected.'

Anthropic added that it views this as a 'misunderstanding' and is working to restore access to these models as quickly as possible.
