DPP Endorses Weng Sheng-Hui, Mother of Three, for Taitung City Mayor; Hsu Kuo-Yung Hopes to Boost Birth Rate

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) today officially endorsed Weng Sheng-Hui as its candidate for Taitung City Mayor. Party Secretary-General Hsu Kuo-Yung traveled to Taitung to present her with a ceremonial sash, praising Weng as a 'mother of three' who can help boost Taitung's birth rate. The DPP government is currently promoting a policy that provides families with a 'nest egg' of over NT$1.08 million when raising a child to age 18.

The DPP held a press event today to introduce Weng Sheng-Hui, the Taitung County Party Executive Director, as its mayoral candidate. Hsu Kuo-Yung attended the event in person, draped the sash over Weng, and simultaneously introduced other DPP nominees, including Chen Ying, the candidate for Taitung County Magistrate, as well as councilor and township mayoral candidates. Hsu stated that the DPP's nominees are undoubtedly the best available.

Hsu emphasized that Weng has long been involved in social welfare and public service, giving her deep insight into the daily lives and challenges of Taitung residents. He particularly highlighted that Weng is a mother of three children, stating that her personal experience makes her a powerful symbol for encouraging higher birth rates in Taitung.

Hsu urged the public not to fear having children, promoting the DPP's 'The State Raises Children with You from 0 to 6' policy. Under this policy, the first child receives a monthly subsidy of NT$5,000, the second NT$6,000, and the third NT$7,000. 'Mothers like Weng, with three children, can receive up to NT$18,000 per month,' he said.

Hsu added that, starting this year, a one-time childbirth allowance of NT$100,000 is being distributed. The government is also planning to introduce a new policy providing NT$5,000 per month from birth until age 18, ensuring that each child accumulates a 'nest egg' of NT$1.08 million by adulthood. With interest, this amount could exceed NT$1.08 million. The DPP encourages families to have more children through these comprehensive support measures.

The DPP Taitung County Party stated that, in preparation for the upcoming elections and in coordination with Legislator Chen Ying's campaign for county magistrate, the party has carefully evaluated and decided to endorse Weng Sheng-Hui. Recognizing her deep local roots, understanding of grassroots needs, and professional background in social services, the party hopes her candidacy will bring new energy and reform-oriented governance to Taitung City.
