(Central News Agency reporter Lin Chang-shun, Taipei, April 13) On the evening of April 11, officers from the Zhongzheng Second Police Substation in Taipei stopped a motorcycle rider surnamed Wang for not wearing a helmet and riding against traffic on Xizang Road. The man appeared nervous, and a saliva rapid test showed a positive reaction for amphetamines. He was transferred to the Taipei District Prosecutor's Office for investigation. Prosecutors applied for pre-trial detention yesterday, which was approved by the court.
At around 6 p.m. on April 11, officers from the Nanhai Road Police Station of the Zhongzheng Second Police Substation were patrolling Xizang Road in Taipei when they spotted a heavy motorcycle rider not wearing a helmet and driving in the wrong direction. They approached and stopped the rider.
During questioning, the officer noticed the rider was nervous and evasive in his speech. With his consent, they searched his belongings and took Wang, born in 1965, back for investigation. A saliva drug screening test was conducted, which showed a positive result for amphetamines. He is suspected of operating a powered vehicle under the influence of drugs and was transferred to the Taipei District Prosecutor's Office on suspicion of violating the Anti-Drug Abuse Act and the public endangerment statute.
After reviewing the case, prosecutors determined that Wang faces serious charges under the Criminal Code for drug-impaired driving and poses a risk of reoffending. They applied to the Taipei District Court for preventive detention, which the court approved late last night. (Editor: Chang Ming-kun) 1150613
