Central News Agency Report
(Central News Agency reporter Huang Hsu-sheng, New Taipei, June 13) Blue and green New Taipei mayoral candidates Lee Sichuan and Su Chiao-hui both attended a Dragon Boat Festival zongzi (sticky rice dumpling) wrapping event in Yingge District today. Su Chiao-hui emphasized enhancing medical capacity and boosting Yingge's economic development, while Lee Sichuan advocated for promoting affordable accommodations to encourage tourists to stay and spend locally.
The zongzi-wrapping event, themed 'Packed with Care, Excellence in Wisdom and Craft,' was held on the third floor of Yingge District's public market. District Chief Tseng Ming-hua stated that wrapping zongzi is not only a way to honor tradition but also carries prayers for the safety of the community. More importantly, it strengthens neighborhood bonds, and he expressed hope that the event would foster friendship and community cohesion.
Both candidates—Su Chiao-hui, a Democratic Progressive Party legislator and mayoral candidate, and Lee Sichuan, the Kuomintang's mayoral candidate—were invited and attended the event separately, receiving a warm welcome and taking commemorative photos.
Su Chiao-hui said she has not only pushed for the upcoming opening of the San-ying MRT line but also secured the completion and activation of the Taiwan Railways Administration's Fengming Station. She also highlighted the construction of the Fengming detention pond, the opening of the trail outside the left bank of the Dahan River, the reconstruction of the San-ying Bridge, the renovation of the Yingge public market, and numerous improvements to school facilities.
Su stated that Yingge possesses nationally renowned ceramic craftsmanship and cultural heritage. She expressed her hope to develop a comprehensive blueprint for Yingge’s future, enhancing medical capacity, adding parking spaces and a library, and continuing to drive the development of Yingge Old Street.
When Lee Sichuan arrived, Fengxiang Village Chief Tseng Sheng-li presented him with buns and zongzi as blessings. Lee also attended the inauguration ceremony of the Yingge District Women's Association's board and supervisors. In his speech, he noted that many business owners have told him that despite Yingge's rich tourism resources, the area struggles to retain overnight visitors.
Lee stated that high accommodation costs for domestic tourism are a common concern among the public. If elected, he plans to use public land through ground lease rights to develop affordable accommodations at reasonable prices, attracting more tourists to visit and stay in Yingge and New Taipei, thereby boosting tourism and economic development.
