U.S.-Iran War Key News
(ISLAMABAD, 13th - CNA综合 international news report) Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, serving as mediator in the U.S.-Iran conflict resolution, stated today that a peace agreement is "likely" to be finalized within 24 hours.
According to AFP, Sharif posted on social media platform X: "We are closer than ever to reaching a peace agreement, which could be finalized within the next 24 hours. Pakistan stands ready to immediately conduct electronic signing upon agreement confirmation, followed by technical-level talks next week."
After weeks of paused negotiations over preliminary memorandum of understanding terms, both Washington and Tehran have recently indicated they are nearing an agreement.
However, tensions remain. Earlier today, the U.S. reported that its military shot down several Iranian one-way attack drones en route to the Strait of Hormuz, which were firing upon commercial vessels transiting the strait.
Iranian state broadcaster IRIB, citing Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, reported that "it cannot yet be confirmed that consensus has been reached with the United States" until a comprehensive agreement is achieved on all issues.
Sharif emphasized his "confidence that this historic peace agreement will lay a solid foundation for lasting peace," and expressed gratitude to Washington and Tehran for their "continued commitment." (Translation: Hung Chi-yuan) 1150613
