Key News on U.S.-Iran War
(Taipei, Washington, 13th - CNA international news report) U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the ceasefire agreement ending the Middle East conflict is scheduled to be signed on the 14th, setting the stage for the reopening of the strategic maritime passage, the Strait of Hormuz.
According to AFP, Trump posted on his social media platform 'Truth Social' today: 'The agreement is scheduled to be signed tomorrow. Once finalized, the Strait of Hormuz will immediately be fully reopened.'
However, Iranian state media reported earlier that Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated the agreement will not be signed on the 14th, contradicting Trump's claim.
Reuters reported that Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, had earlier expressed caution regarding the signing timeline, urging the public not to speculate excessively.
Quoting Baghaei, Iranian state media stated: 'It is still too early to confirm the exact date for the memorandum's signing, but it will not be tomorrow.'
He added: 'The possibility of signing in the coming days cannot be ruled out, but since the other side remains hesitant, we must be cautious in commenting on this process.' (Compiled by: Tsai Chia-min) 1150614
