(Central News Agency reporter Chen Chih-chung, Taipei, June 13) The Tang Prize Foundation will announce the laureates of the 7th Tang Prize in four categories—Sustainability, Biopharmaceutical Science, Sinology, and Rule of Law—over four consecutive days from June 15 to 18. Each award carries a prize of NT$50 million.
Over the past 14 years, the Tang Prize has recognized 45 laureates from 17 countries. Notably, three Biopharmaceutical Science laureates and one Sustainability laureate have subsequently won the Nobel Prize, establishing the Tang Prize as a significant precursor to the Nobel, drawing international attention.
The Foundation will announce the Sustainability Prize laureate on June 15, Biopharmaceutical Science on June 16, Sinology on June 17, and Rule of Law on June 18. Press conferences will feature distinguished experts from each field who will introduce the new laureates and explain their achievements.
Awarded biennially, the Tang Prize was established by the late Dr. Y. L. Yin, chairman of the Runme Shaw Group. An independent selection committee chooses the laureates. Each prize includes NT$50 million (NT$10 million of which is designated as research grant), shareable among multiple recipients. (Editor: Huang Ming-hsi) 1150613
