Central News Agency Report

(CNA reporter You Yao-ru, Vilnius, June 13) The 5th annual sports charity event, the 'Ambassadors’ Cup' football match, took place today in Vilnius, Lithuania. Taiwan’s Representative Office in Lithuania was once again invited to participate, contributing to charitable causes. Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda attended the event and personally joined the match to express his support, also taking photos and interacting with Taiwanese exchange students.

The 'Ambassadors’ Cup,' initiated by Lithuania’s 'Help Street Children Foundation,' is a sports and charity initiative that brings together embassies, government agencies, businesses, and NGOs from various countries to support children from underprivileged families and Ukrainian refugee families, enabling them to safely engage in sports.

This year, 20 teams participated, including ambassadors, diplomats, and civil servants from multiple nations. The Office of the President of Lithuania also formed a team, with President Nausėda taking the field himself, drawing significant attention and cheers from the audience.

Organizers stated that registration fees from each team will support the foundation’s operations, including children’s football training, sports equipment, tournament opportunities, and summer camps, helping children build healthy lifestyles.

President Nausėda also posted on social media platform X, thanking the organizers, participating embassies, and all those committed to expanding sports opportunities for children.

Wang Hsueh-hung, Taiwan’s representative in Lithuania, said this year marks Taiwan’s third invitation to the event, making it particularly meaningful. She emphasized that participation not only supports charity but also fosters community exchange among diplomatic missions. Noting that the match coincided with the FIFA World Cup, she described the 'Ambassadors’ Cup' as a miniature 'United Nations football tournament,' highlighting the significance of Taiwan’s continued involvement.

Wang added that this year’s Taiwan team included not only staff from the representative office but also overseas compatriots, local Taiwanese businesspeople, and exchange students, with the team growing in size. She stressed that participation and exchange matter more than rankings and expressed hope for the team’s continued growth. (Edited by Chen Cheng-kung) 1150613
