National Taiwan University (NTU) announced today that starting from the 115th academic year, it will expand its 'Advanced High School Program' from a pilot limited to Taipei City high schools to all high school students across Taiwan, and further open participation to outstanding students from Malaysia.
NTU launched the pilot program in the 114th academic year, initially available to five high schools: Jian Guo High School, Taipei First Girls High School, National Taiwan Normal University Affiliated Senior High School, Zhong Shan Girls High School, and Cheng Kung High School. During today's university administrative meeting, NTU officially announced the nationwide expansion, introducing a hybrid teaching model comprising in-person instruction, live streaming, and recorded course videos.
NTU stated that this program responds to the growing demand among high school students for university-level academic exploration and self-directed learning following the implementation of the 108 Curriculum Guidelines. Students can use these courses to explore diverse academic interests before college admission, accumulate university credits, shorten their adaptation period upon entering university, and gain more time for interdisciplinary studies, research, or international exchange.
In the first semester of the 115th academic year, courses offered include Calculus I, General Physics A I, Principles of Economics, Sociology, General Biology, and General Psychology. The second semester will offer Calculus II, General Physics A II, Principles of Economics, Sociology, General Psychology, and General Chemistry C.
Courses will be delivered through in-person, live-streamed, or recorded formats depending on their nature. Upon completing all required learning activities, assignments, and assessments, students will receive a course completion certificate from NTU. If they are later admitted to NTU, they may apply for course credit exemptions through their respective departments, according to university regulations.
Students must first apply through their respective high schools, which will submit recommended candidates to NTU. If applications exceed course capacity, selection will be conducted by lottery. The enrollment fee per course is NT$3,450, though students from low-income and middle-low-income households are exempt from payment. NTU will host an online information session on June 16.
