The 2026 FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, kicked off today in Los Angeles with a star-studded Hollywood-style opening ceremony. The U.S. national team followed up with a 4-1 victory over Paraguay, securing a triumphant start to the tournament.

According to AFP, the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles echoed with a booming voiceover announcing 'Welcome to the United States,' while giant screens displayed close-up shots of the iconic Hollywood sign.

A marching band performed first, followed by musical acts from American rapper Future, South African singer Tyla, Brazilian artist Anitta, and K-pop star Lisa. The costumes and props were inspired by Los Angeles street art and the city’s creative industries.

American actor Jason Sudeikis and singer Katy Perry also took the stage for performances.

Numerous celebrities attended the event, including Tom Cruise, David Beckham, Halle Berry, Rob Lowe, Owen Wilson, and Paris Hilton. Performers danced around a giant replica of the World Cup trophy in celebration.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump did not attend but called the American team, saying, 'I think you have a great chance to go all the way. Good luck.' (Compiled by Lu Ying-tzu) 1150613
