According to North Korean state media, leader Kim Jong Un has sent a congratulatory letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the occasion of Russia Day, expressing full support for Moscow's domestic and foreign policies.

The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported today that Kim stated the bilateral relationship is accelerating on the basis of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty. He pledged, "We will always stand with Russia."

In addition to Kim's letter, North Korean officials joined Russian counterparts in visiting Soviet-era military cemeteries and memorials to pay respects. In Pyongyang, the Russian embassy hosted a reception for senior North Korean officials.

As relations grow closer, thousands of North Korean troops are reportedly being deployed to support Russia's war efforts in Ukraine. U.S. and South Korean officials have accused Pyongyang of supplying artillery shells, missiles, and other military supplies to Russia for use in Ukraine, though both Moscow and Pyongyang deny any arms trade.

Moreover, a bridge spanning the Tumen River along the两国 border is scheduled for completion on June 19. This project is part of the strategic partnership treaty signed during Putin's visit to Pyongyang in June 2024.

According to Reuters, analysts suggest the bridge could not only boost bilateral trade but also provide North Korea with a new logistics route to circumvent international sanctions imposed over its nuclear and missile programs.
