Chiang Wan-an Advocates Abolishing Control Yuan; Shen Po-yang: Ignores City Governance, Responds to Presidential Election Issues

(Central News Agency, reporter Lin Jing-yin, Taipei 12th) Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an has expressed his stance on abolishing the Control Yuan. In response, DPP Taipei mayoral candidate Shen Po-yang stated today that while Chiang claims to focus on city governance, he does not respond to the municipal issues Shen raises, but instead responds to topics that seem related to a presidential election. Shen suggested that it is the Taipei City Government that cannot focus on municipal affairs.

DPP Taipei City Chapter Chairperson Wu Pei-yi and Kaohsiung City Chapter Chairperson Huang Jie held a press conference today for the launch of limited-edition jerseys for the "Taipei-Kaohsiung Connection 2026 Strong Hit Outing Team Taipei! Team Takao! Go!" event. They invited Shen Po-yang and DPP Legislator Tsai Chi-chang, who also serves as the president of the Chinese Professional Baseball League.

When asked by the media whether Chiang's recent official visits to other cities and counties constitute a form of campaign support, Shen Po-yang said that when he tried to discuss municipal issues, Chiang claimed to be focused on city governance. However, judging by his current itinerary, he seems more concerned with other cities and counties than with Taipei.

Regarding Chiang's stance on abolishing the Control Yuan, Shen said he has asked Chiang many questions about municipal affairs, but Chiang has not responded. The only issues Chiang responds to seem to be related to a presidential campaign, which Shen finds strange.

Shen pointed out that when the DPP held a majority in the Legislative Yuan, it proposed constitutional amendments and submitted them to the Constitutional Amendment Committee for review. However, the KMT caucus did not participate at that time. Bringing up this issue now is clearly a double standard, Shen said.

Shen stated that the current problem is that the central government's total budget for fiscal year 2026, as well as the military procurement budget, which were supposed to be reviewed last year, have still not been passed. If Chiang truly cares about these issues, he is familiar with the legislators from Taipei and should explain to them the importance of reviewing the total budget and military procurement.
