(CNA reporter Li Chien-Chung, Taipei, 12th) The Archery World Cup Antalya stage held individual recurve and compound archery competitions for men and women today. Taiwanese archer Wei Chun-Hsien defeated Kim Je Deok, South Korea's Paris Olympics triple gold medalist, 7-3 in the Round of 32, but was eliminated in the subsequent Round of 16.

Held in Turkey, Taiwan's men's recurve archery team claimed a bronze medal yesterday, while the compound mixed pair of Chang Cheng-Wei and Huang Yi-Jou secured their place in tomorrow's gold medal match.

Today's competition featured men's and women's individual recurve events. Wei Chun-Hsien, who previously won a silver medal with Taiwan's men's team at the Tokyo Olympics, drew attention despite failing to qualify for this year's Asian Games in Nagoya. In the Round of 32, he faced South Korea's Kim Je Deok and delivered one of his best performances in recent years.

Wei won the first set 30-27. The next three sets ended in ties, leaving him ahead 5-3 in points. In the decisive fifth set, Wei delivered another perfect 30-point round, defeating Kim Je Deok, who swept gold in the men's individual, team, and mixed events at the Paris Olympics.

Unfortunately, Wei could not maintain his momentum and lost 4-6 to Mete Gazoz of Turkey, the Tokyo Olympics men's individual gold medalist, in the Round of 16.

Wei told CNA reporters that he approached the match with a relaxed mindset. He noted that in the quarterfinals, wind conditions affected one of his sets, where he scored only 24 points, ultimately impacting the final result.

In the recurve events, apart from Wei Chun-Hsien advancing to the Round of 16 for Taiwan's men, women's newcomer Hsu Hsin-Tzu pushed South Korea's star An San to a shoot-off but narrowly lost 5-6, missing out on the quarterfinals. Additionally, Taiwan's compound archers failed to advance to the quarterfinals in both men's and women's individual events. (Editor: Lo Po-An) 1150612
