(CNA, by Huang Chiao-wen, Taipei, 12th) Meteorologist Wu Der-rong said that a stationary front is moving north today, and strong convection is again threatening all of Taiwan, so caution should be exercised for severe weather. Tomorrow, the stationary front will be over the northern sea, and on the 14th and 15th, influenced by the southwest monsoon, the southwest should be mindful of severe weather. From the 19th to the 21st, during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, it will be sunny and hot like midsummer across the region.

Wu Der-rong, an adjunct associate professor at Central University's Department of Atmospheric Sciences, stated in the 'Hsieh-Tien-Chi Classroom' column of the Weather Application and Promotion Foundation that the latest European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) model simulation shows that the stationary front is moving north again today, with strong convection once again threatening all of Taiwan. He warned of the occurrence of severe weather (lightning, strong winds, instantaneous heavy rain).

Wu pointed out that the latest model simulation shows that tomorrow the stationary front will be over the northern sea, temperatures will rise, and due to the influence of the southwest monsoon, there may still be strong convection in the afternoon. He mentioned that on the 14th and 15th, the stationary front will shift slightly south, and under the influence of the unstable southwest monsoon, the windward southwestern region will be threatened by severe weather, with opportunities for it in other areas in the afternoon, so continued attention is needed.

Wu stated that the latest model simulation shows that from the 16th to the 18th, the stationary front will move north again, and it will be hot during the day when it is not raining. On the 16th and 17th, it will still be within the scope of the southwest monsoon, with vigorous afternoon convective development. On the 18th, the southwest monsoon will weaken, and the intensity of convection will tend to decrease.

Wu noted that the latest model simulation shows that from the 19th to the 21st, during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, the Pacific high will strengthen, bringing sunny and hot weather like midsummer to all areas, with occasional localized brief afternoon showers in the mountains. He reminded that there are signs of tropical disturbance development east of the Philippines, which increases the uncertainty of the final simulation period for various countries and requires observation.
