Multiple floors and corridors inside the building were sealed off, and other areas were evacuated. However, insiders later revealed to the American Cable News Network (CNN) that it was a false alarm.

Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said earlier that the Pentagon's internal systems 'detected air quality issues, and we had to take preventive measures before we confirmed the severity.'

He also said that the Department of War is implementing standard protective measures, including issuing stay-in-place orders for affected areas. 'The response team is in place and ready to assist personnel inside the building.'
