The 2026 Taiwan Cultural and Creative Expo is set to take place in August. The Taiwan Design Research Institute has recently made a strategic advance into Japan by participating in the Tokyo International Interior Lifestyle Design Show, bringing together three Taiwanese brands in a specially curated exhibition zone, attracting significant interest from international buyers and fostering business discussions.

Established in 1991, the Tokyo International Interior Lifestyle Design Show (Interior Lifestyle Tokyo) is one of Japan’s most representative international exhibitions focused on home furnishings and lifestyle design. It showcases brands in furniture, home decor, tableware, gifts, and daily lifestyle products. This year, the exhibition gathered around 400 brands from 15 countries and regions.

In a press release issued today, the Taiwan Design Research Institute announced that the Tokyo show officially listed the Taiwan Cultural Expo as a partner and described it as “Taiwan’s largest-scale creative exhibition” in its promotional materials. Leveraging this collaboration, the Institute has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the event organizer, Messe Frankfurt Japan Ltd., to further strengthen cooperation in brand exchange, business matchmaking, and market expansion.

Messe Frankfurt Japan Ltd. praised Taiwan’s rich pool of innovative design brands and creative talent, expressing hopes that the partnership will enhance design industry exchanges between Taiwan and Japan and create more cross-border collaboration opportunities in the Asian design market. The company also announced plans to visit Taiwan in August to attend the 2026 Taiwan Cultural Expo, reinforcing the bilateral relationship and exploring future international exchanges and business opportunities.

The three Taiwanese brands featured in the special curated 'Meet Design' section of the Tokyo show are the furniture brand umami, the newly established fragrance brand SENSITUDE, and the lifestyle brand HMM. The curation was led by Shinnosuke Tsuboi, founder of the Japanese design brand 100percent, who selected brands from the Taiwan Cultural Expo lineup based on their international market potential and distinctive design identity.

On the opening day of the exhibition, numerous professional buyers from Japan and across Asia visited the booth for networking and business discussions. Notably, a representative from a furniture event in Fukuoka personally visited the Taiwanese brands and invited them to participate in an upcoming exhibition in Fukuoka in May 2027, opening new avenues for Taiwanese brands to enter Japan’s Kyushu market.
